Firefox 3 – How to make the most out of it?

Posted in Technical by Halley on August 28, 2008

I still wonder why people still care to browse the internet with Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, one of the world’s most insecure browsers ever invented, even after Firefox 3 is out!!!

More and more people are now using Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. And if you want proof, go check this link. http://marketshare.hitslink.com/report.aspx?qprid=1

So what makes Forefox a better browser than Internet Explorer? To find out, read on…

One of the major advantage of using Firefox is Safety. Whenever a security vulnerability is discovered in Firefox, it is made public so that all of the open source community work together to solve the problem in the lowest time possible. Download Firefox, and rest assured that you can enjoy a completely risk free and secure interrnet experience.

The part I love most about Firefox is the many ways in which you can customize your browser to suit your needs with small programs called Add-ons(small pieces of software that augment Firefox to meet your unique needs).

I use a variety of Add-ons and I will list the add-ons I use frequently all here so that you can know what is in the store for you when you download this great piece of software.

1. Foxmarks

If you use Firefox on more than one computer, you’ll want Foxmarks. Install Foxmarks on each computer, and it will work silently in the background to keep your bookmarks synchronized. You can also log in to my.foxmarks.com to manage your bookmarks from any computer.

This is one of the best add on available and a must have if you are a frequent traveller from office and home.

2. DownThemAll!!!

The first and only download manager/accelerator built inside Firefox

Forget all download managers. This one is integrated to your browser itself and works better than most of the other download managers. It even has a download accelerator integrated into it.

3. Download Status Bar

View and manage downloads from a tidy statusbar – without the download window getting in the way of your web browsing.

Well, this add-on disables the annoying pop up of download manager in Firefox so that you can manage them all in a tidy way at the bottom near your status bar.

4. Fire FTP

FireFTP is a free, secure, cross-platform FTP client for Mozilla Firefox which provides easy and intuitive access to FTP servers.

This provides all the features of a full fledged FTP client and that too for free. Fire FTP is a must have tools for web developers.

5. Ad Block Plus

Ever been annoyed by all those ads and banners on the internet that often take longer to download than everything else on the page? Install Adblock Plus now and get rid of them.

Install it and block all the annoying flash ads and banners. Ads will be now history. This is one of my favourite add ons.. And I strongly recommend this to you all.

So what are you waiting for guys? Go ahead and download the Firefox and enjoy the web in a whole new way!
